Times Higher Education's definition of social sciences covers political science and international relations, including development studies, public policy, and governance; sociology, geography (both human and physical geography); communication and media; and anthropology.
The subject of psychology is ranked on its own and, like the previous year, is ranked 201-250.
As last year, MIT is the leading social science university, closely followed by Oxford, Stanford, Harvard and Princeton. Four universities outside the US and UK are in the top 20. These are the universities of Beijing (16), Singapore (17), Amsterdam (18) and Tsingua (20).
Among EU universities, Lund's social scientists are ranked eighth.
