Develop as a teaching practitioner
At the Faculty of Social Sciences, there are several ways to develop in the teaching profession. You can, for example, take a course in teaching and learning in higher education or participate in one of the seminars and workshops organised by the faculty. If you have an idea for a large project that would promote education at the faculty, you can apply for educational development time. For those who wish to gain qualifications, there is also the opportunity to be appointed as a Recognised Teaching Practitioner and Excellent Teaching Practitioner.

Get help from a librarian
Information management is included as a learning outcome in all the faculty’s courses and programmes. Course directors can contact the Faculty of Social Sciences Library for assistance with integrating areas such as information searches, source criticism and reference management into your course.
You are welcome to get in touch with your contact librarian for planning and discussion.

Get help from a language teaching expert
The faculty’s language teaching experts offer teaching on academic literacy, focusing on reading and writing skills. Depending on the size of the group, structure and teaching content, lectures, workshops or seminars are offered.
The language teaching experts’ sessions achieve the best results when the teaching is integrated into the course and therefore close cooperation with course lecturers is welcomed. The language teaching experts can also offer professional development for departments.
Email a request that includes:
- A description of the help you need.
- Information about the programme/course in which the teaching is to take place, and the module to which it will be linked.
- A proposed date for an initial planning meeting.
- A proposed date and time for the teaching session.

Please note that:
- The language teaching experts receive many requests and it is therefore important to book well in advance, preferably one term in advance.
- The lessons are not finalised until the language teaching experts have approved the date and time.
- The teacher in charge books the room and registers the language teaching experts on the relevant Canvas course.
Showing films in class - use the Film Library
Would you like to show films in your classroom? Then you need institutional screening rights for the film you want to show. Check out the Faculty of Social Sciences Library's film guide for the available options!
Utilise support from SI mentors
SI-PASS (Supplemental Instruction-Peer Assisted Study Sessions) is a teaching method based on learning in small groups, where the students meet regularly about once a week under the guidance of one or two SI leaders. The aim of SI-PASS is to improve results on difficult courses, reduce the drop-out rate and make things easier in the transition from upper secondary school to university.
If, as a teaching practitioner or course director, you want to use SI leaders in your course, it is expected that you will have continuous contact with the SI leaders. You are not involved in the actual SI sessions, but the SI leaders will give you regular reports about the SI sessions with the aim of highlighting aspects that the students feel are difficult.
