About Faculty of Social Sciences
The Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University is one of Sweden’s leading units for research and education within the social and behavioural sciences. With activities in both Lund and Helsingborg, a staff of over 700 and around 6 000 full-time equivalent students, the faculty is one of the largest at the University.
Nomination and application procedures
Information regarding our nomination and application periods, nomination guide, application process and documents.
Nomination period
- Autumn semester and academic year: 15–31 March
- Spring semester: 15–30 September
Nomination instructions are sent to the student’s home university shortly before the nomination period.
Application period
- Autumn semester: 1–15 April
- Spring semester: 1–15 October
Once the student has been nominated by the home university, the student will receive an activation email via our application system with further instructions one day before the application period opens.

Application process for exchange studies
- Nomination completed by student’s home university.
- Email with application log in details sent to student from the application system SoleMove.
- Submit application including supporting documents.
- Apply for housing via LU Accommodation.
- Letter of Acceptance sent to student via email from the application system SoleMove.
- Apply for Swedish Residence Permit for Studies using the Letter of Acceptance.

Supporting documents for application
The supporting documents in English should be uploaded as enclosures in the application. For application to Facutly of Social Sciences, following documents are mandatory:
- Official academic transcript of records (in English) including the courses you are currently taking
- CV
- Statement of Purpose
- Bachelor degree and transcripts, if you are applying to Master-level courses
- Passport Copy (the page with your personal data and photograph)

Degrees and credits
Number of credits per semester and grading system:
1 LU credit = 1 ECTS
- Undergraduate and graduate: 30 ECTS/semester, 60 ECTS/year
- Bachelor’s degrees: 3 years, 180 ECTS
- Master’s degrees: 1 year, 60 ECTS, 2 years, 120 ECTS
Accommodation
To find somewhere to live in Lund, Malmö or Helsingborg, most international students apply through LU Accommodation (a part of Student Services at Lund University). The application dates and deadlines may vary, and exchange students are strongly recommended to apply as soon as the application is open.

Exchange students are advised to search for accommodation actively through different agencies, such as AF Bostäder and BoPoolen, and beware of fraudsters and housing scams.
