Mixed methods and positionality in feminist-inspired research on water, development & environment
Swedish South Asia Studies Network (SASNET) invites you all to a workshop where we will discuss mixed methods in doing empirical research, taking inspiration from feminist theory.
Below you will find more information and a link to register for the workshop.
The focus will be on gender, masculinities, technology and water management, relying on research work done in South Asia (Nepal, India) and Southern Africa. Some of the methods that will be discussed are: multi-sited ethnographic observations, life history interviews, historical documentation research, photo analysis, map analysis, and film and videopodcast making. The issue of positionality in research and relying on a professional-insider position will also be discussed. The aim is to question what is considered ‘normal’ in scientific and professional practice, in this case in the world of water management, and challenge performances of masculinity, whiteness and heteronormativity that are associated with foreign aid and international development cooperation.
